Judge accused of influence peddling to be investigated outside custody

The Chisinau City Court judge who is accused of influence peddling will be investigated outside custody. The Chisinau City Appeals Court rejected the prosecutors’ request to remand the judge in custody, IPN reports.

The judge was arrested on influence peddling charges two weeks ago. She is suspected of asking US$16,000 from the manager of a company for helping this obtain a favorable court decision in a civil lawsuit. The judge presumably received US$11,000 of the initial sum.

The company manager who gave bribe to the judge was placed under house arrest for a month.

Last week, at the request of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, the Superior Council of Magistracy decide to suspend judge Maria Tertea, of the Ciocana branch of the Chisinau City Court, from post until the court decision in this case remains final.
