The Journalists Union of Moldova issued a joint statement addressed to the international community, whereby it condemns the Transnistrian regime for sentencing journalist Ernest Vardanyan to 15 years in jail, Info-Prim Neo reports. The members of the Union consider that this conviction represents defiance of the European Convention on Human Rights and the Constitution of Moldova. The Union calls upon the international human rights and journalistic organizations to take steps and help set the journalist free. “The Moldovan journalists make common cause with him (Ernest Vardanyan) as he is a person that suffers as a result of the atrocities of a Stalinist regime supported in continuation by Russia,” said the Union’s head Valeriu Saharneanu. The unconstitutional Transnistrian authorities sentenced Ernest Vardanyanto 15 years in jail for treason and espionage for Moldova. The trial was secret and lasted since April.
