Journalists from Ziarul de Garda claim they are intimidated after publishing an article about the Security Service
The editorial team of Ziarul de Garda accuse that, after publishing an article titled “Hot Summer at SIS” (SIS – the Information and Security Service), they are subjected to a chain of pressures and attacks by phone and e-mail.
They issued a statement Thursday reading that unidentified people called the reporters from hidden numbers, asking for inadequate information, making pressures and threats. The anonymous actions have repeated daily, as unidentified people told the journalists they know their identity, family members, home addresses, intercept their phone talks and read their e-mails.
The article is about a SIS employee, about whom several young people said he would have got their phone numbers and tried to recruit them for a mission they could not accept. The newspaper team says one of their reporters called that SIS officer, observing the professional ethics and wrote the opinions of both parties. The SIS employee vehemently insisted that the reporter did not write about this in the newspaper, calling the reporter to the SIS quarters. The editors decided to publish the article because of the public interest linked to a state agency.
The reporters consider the pressure drive on them comes from a person who feels touched on by the article and who dares to use secret registries to intimidate the journalists.
Asked by Info-Prim Neo to comment the statements of Ziarul de Garda, the SIS's press service has said they need an official request to be sent to the SIS's chief.
