Journalists continue to seek access to Parliament sittings

Journalists continue to protest in front of the Parliament Building, expressing their dissatisfaction with the hampering of the free access of reporters and cameramen to the assembly hall. Moreover, a number of members of the Independent Journalism Center on March 17 set up gain the so-called ‘press pen’ where they placed the message “We want access to Parliament”, IPN reports.

Today’s event is the fourth of the kind staged on Thursdays, when Parliament holds plenary sittings. Independent Journalism Center member Olga Tiganescu said the goal of the event is to demand that the accredited journalists have access to the Parliament’s assembly hall so that the people are thoroughly informed about what is going on in the legislative body.

The Center’s members consider that the working group’s decision by which the cameramen are allowed to enter the assembly hall is a beginning of victory. Olga Tiganescu said that this decision is to be adopted by Parliament for being applied. “It is a start of victory. When the first cameramen enter the assembly hall, we will take away the ‘pen’ from the near the Parliament Building,” she stated.

Another member of the Independent Journalism Center Zinnia Gheata said that she is for optimal working conditions for journalists and cameramen so that these can transmit the information directly from the assembly hall of Parliament. According to her, the protests will continue until they achieve their goal.

The protest forms part of a campaign initiated by the Independent Journalism Center in 2014.
