Journalist Edward Doks presents book “Ukrainian Reportage in Hebrew”

Edward Doks, a Ukrainian international journalist, tour guide and translator with a high level of competence in Hebrew, presented his book titled “Ukrainian Reportage in Hebrew” in the Republic of Moldova, for the first time. The book contains the author’s illustrated reports in Hebrew, a selection of photographs with English captions, a bilingual English-Ukrainian foreword and a personal biography. Since its launch, the book has obtained at least ten positive reviews in the English, Hebrew, Russian, Ukrainian and Polish languages.

Edward Doks grew up and studied in Vinnitsa. He spent a part of his life in Israel and during almost 30 years has worked din Ukraine. His new book “Ukrainian Reportage in Hebrew” was supposed to become a guide to a peaceful Ukraine. But, unfortunately, the plans were foiled by the war. A part of the reports included in the book were written in Chisinau, since March until September 2022.

In a news conference hosted by IPN, Edward Doks said that nothing predicted he would have to leave Ukraine, but the circumstances made him do this and he has stayed in the Republic of Moldova since last March. The book depicts these moments as well. The war thwarted his plans to publish a book about tourism - an area in which he has about 20 years’ experience – as he could not avoid the war theme.

“I want to thank a lot Veacezlav Popovschi, a designer of the Chisinau Central Publishing House, who helped me implement the idea during a very short period of time,” stated the journalist.

In the same news conference, the Rabbi of Chisinau Mendel Akselrod said that he got acquainted with Edward Doks in not very happy circumstances. The war made the author leave Kyiv and find refuge in Chisinau. “Writers say that a new book is like the birth of a child and this idea matches the current period of Pesach, which is one of the most important feast days of the Jewish people. We can say that this is the major Jewish holiday as the Pesach celebrates the birth of the Jewish people,” stated Mendel Akselrod.

According to him, this holiday commemorates the Hebrews’ liberation from slavery in Egypt and their rebirth as a free nation. “I want to congratulate you on your book and on your God-given talent. I urge you to use it all the time so as to pass on the traditions of our nation to the future generations,” stated the Rabbi of Chisinau.
