The State University’s Journalism and Communication Sciences Faculty (JCSF) launches a project on teaching cross-media journalism. The cross-media concept implies that the institution makes reference from one communication platform to another, thus using all means of information, reports Info-Prim Neo. JCSF Dean Georgeta Stepanov stated in a public debate, which was held as part of the Right to Knowledge Days, that the new information technologies transfigured not only the Moldovan journalism, but the higher education in this field as well, “The JCSF is not an exception. We proposed ourselves to develop towards the cross-media field. We try to take global treads into account”, said Georgeta Stepanov. The Journalism and Communication Sciences Faculty won a project and will begin its implementation starting October. “The project will have courses for students, tutored by German trainers. The JCSF is a pilot-faculty, it gives us access to a laboratory with German equipment, as well as specialists for the maintenance of the equipment. The project will end in 2015; the faculty will keep the equipment”, the Dean communicated. If the cross-media course gains popularity, the faculty administration hopes to open a whole new cross-media communication department. “We intend to find other such projects, since the future lies within information technologies. Specialists say that, in the future, newspapers in traditional format will have the same fate as the theaters”, said Georgeta Stepanov. According to the Dean, one of the faculty’s objectives is to invite as many active journalists as possible to work as teachers, since they deal with up-to-date information and could share their experience with the youth. The public debate was a Right to Knowledge Days event that was organized with the support of the German Foundation Hanns Seidel as part of the project “European integration as a national idea with a potential to strengthen Moldovan society”.
