More than 100 sellers of flowers Tuesday blocked the section of Stefan the Great Blvd. between Pushkin and Banulescu Bodoni streets for about 20 minutes. They protested against the law that obliges them to set up private companies and to issue sale slips for the sold flowers. The attempts by the police to unblock the street resulted in altercations. The protesters clashed with police officers and a number of persons fell down, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We want patents. We need money to purchase cash registers, but we cannot work with them. We do not have conditions for installing the cash register and need a person who would use it. On Friday, they fined us 8,000 lei. I’m an invalid with the third disability degree. I don’t have money to pay the fine. We want to work on the basis of patents and hope we will have an answer from the authorities as we voted for them,” said Valentina Sarghi, a seller of flowers working at Docuceaev Market. The vendors threatened to continue the protests if the authorities do not satisfy their requests. “We want to be able to grow and sell flowers. We cannot record the sale of every flower. The flowers collected in the morning can become dry in the evening. We demand that our problems be solved. We are citizens of this country and want to work freely in our country,” said Valentina Taranu, a seller of flowers from Balti. Deputy mayor of Chisinau Mihai Furtuna, who came to the scene, assured the protesters that no more fines for lacking cash registers will be imposed on them from today. “I submitted proposals to the parliamentary commission to amend the legislation on patent. Certain kinds of activities will be changed and you will be able to work under patent. Those who sell flowers will work under patent. The proposals were accepted and will be examined in the near future. We will agree with all the inspection bodies so that they do not impose fines on you,” said Mihai Furtuna. But the sellers expressed their skepticism. They said they will block Stefan cel Mare Blvd. again if the authorities do not find a solution.
