The Moldovan-Ukrainian join control at the border crossing point “Cuciurgan-Pervomaisc” begins to be applied from the end of May. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Lilian Darii told a news conference that the goal of this control is to facilitate the traffic of goods, transport and persons, not to constrain the inhabitants of Transnistria. On the contrary, the costs of export from the Transnistrian region will decrease and covered distances will become shorter, the deputy minister has said, quoted by IPN.
The join control at the border crossing point “Cuciurgan-Pervomaisc” will be performed in two stages. At the first stage, employees of the Border Police will monitor in concert the flow of persons who will cross the border through this post. The foreigners will be included in the database of the Moldovan authorities and unpleasant situations when leaving Moldova, when these persons had to explain how they entered Moldova in the absence of official confirmations, will be thus eliminated.
At the second stage, predictably in about six months, the imported and exported goods will also be subject to joint control, by the model of the other joint control posts that work at present. The checking of the safety and security of phytosanitary products will be the duty of the Transnistrian authorities.
Lilian Darii reiterated that all the imported goods on which excise duties are paid will be examined by the constitutional bodies even if they later reach Transnistria. Owing to the join control at the border crossing point “Cuciurgan-Pervomaisc, the Transnistrian businessmen will no longer need to travel to other customs posts situated on the border with Ukraine for clearing exported goods. Now the Transnistrian goods intended for export are cleared through the customs posts Tudora and Causeni. Thus, by setting up a checkpoint closer to those from Transnistria, the transport costs and distance covered will be reduced.
The border crossing point “Cuciurgan-Pervomaisc” will work nonstop, with two freight lanes and one lane for passenger traffic.
