European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn encouraged the Moldovan authorities to act with firmness with a view to doing reforms. He even suggested working out a relevant roadmap. The official made suggestions in a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Galbur who paid a working visit to Brussels on February 8, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova, the European official encouraged implementing economic and structural reforms, in particular in such sectors as justice, corruption fighting and the financial-banking system. He underlined the importance of continuing the dialogue with civil society and of resuming cooperation with the external development partners with the aim of overcoming the problems faced now by Moldova. Johannes Hahn suggested thinking up a roadmap for doing the key reforms.

Minister Andrei Galbur handed over a letter from Prime Minister Pavel Filip to the European Commissioner, which is intended for the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker. The letter describes the steps that the government of Moldova will take to promote the necessary reforms and to remedy the socioeconomic situation in the country.

As to the plan of action for implementing the Association Agreement with the EU, Andrei Galbur said the new government is determined to carry out all the overdue measures in the implementation process by the meeting of the Association Council, which is set to take place in the middle of March.

The officials shared the opinion that the approaching meeting of the Association Council will represent an occasion for objectively assessing the made progress and a platform for jointly setting the priorities for the immediate future.
