Joe Biden urges Moldova to continue economic reform
Promoting economic reform in Moldova should prevail over the political disagreements with which the county has been struggling lately. This was one of the messages voiced by US Vice President Joe Biden in his public speech in Chisinau on Friday, March 11, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Political reform is hard, but economic reform can be even harder, especially when unemployment is high and prices are rising”, said Biden.
“But as you reform your economy, more foreign investment will flow into Moldova; more foreign businesses will enter foreign markets, and that will add up to higher paying jobs and more jobs”.
The American vice president promised that as long as Moldova continued its economic reform the United States would remain its partner, recalling that over the next five years Moldova would receive $262 million in support of its economy, in particular for the agricultural industry, but also for other areas.
“This assistance, God willing, will be used to improve your roads, help your farmers, get their goods to market, will make it easier for farmers to get the loans they need, to buy better equipment.
“We will work with the Moldovan Government on economic policies to grow your economy, to attract foreign investment, train civil society to become more effective advocates, and help improve Moldovan schools”, stated Vice President Biden.
Vice President Joe Biden, the highest-ranking US official to ever visit Moldova, came to Chisinau to show support for the current government's democratic reform, meeting with with Prime Minister Vlad Filat and acting President Marian Lupu.
