A new academic year comes with new specialties at higher education establishments. In the Republic of Moldova, there was launched the Jobs of the Future Program that envisions the introduction of such new specialties as Animation, Game Development, and New Media. Professors say the universities aim to train specialists who will meet the labor market needs and will keep pace with innovations and information technology, IPN reports.
As from September 1, the young people in the Republic of Moldova will be able to opt for a university diploma in Animation, Game Design, and New Media at the State University, the Technical University and the State Teacher Training University “Ion Creangă”.
“The Teacher Training University “Ion Creangă” has supplemented its educational offer with two programs – Game Design and Animation. These two programs are available at the Faculty of Plastic Arts and Design. Those who intend to apply to these two programs can do it by August 2. These programs rely on specialized laboratories and information technology. We want to offer the students new employment opportunities here, at home. These programs are introduced at the request of the labor market, the businesses that wait for employees. I’m sure that the students from the first year will have part-time employment opportunities and will harmoniously combine theory and practice. By introducing these programs, we create in the Republic of Moldova a new professional climate,” Alexandra Barbăneagră, the rector of “Ion Creangă” University, stated in the program “Common Objective” on TVR Moldova channel.
At present, the video game industry is larger in size than the film industry. According to official data, over 100,000 young people at European level work in this industry and the sector over the next few years will need about 80,000 new specialists.
“At UTM, we have launched the Game Design program. For the Game Design program, we have lecturers of our university and invited professors for the 700 practical lessons. We are making effort to meet the needs of society. This program will last for three years. We endeavored to design a concentrated program so that we have real professionals at the end of studies,” said the dean of the Textiles and Polygraphy Faculty of the Technical University Sergiu Tronciu.
New Media is also a new specialty for the Republic of Moldova. This will be available at the undergraduate level at the Faculty of Journalisms and Communication Science of the State University. New media are forms of media that are computational and rely on computers and the Internet for redistribution. Some examples of new media are computer animations, video games, human-computer interfaces, interactive computer installations, websites, and virtual worlds.
