JILDP supports inter-community cooperation

The Joint Integrated Local Development Program (JILDP) will continue to support the implementation of inter-community cooperation projects in the settlements to which it provides assistance, Olesea Cruc, manager of the JILDP’s Community Empowerment component, has told Info-Prim Neo. “The inter-municipal cooperation in Moldova is develops slowly, even if this would be a solution to the problems faced by our settlements. We have the necessary experience in this respect. For example, the successful solving of the waste removal problem in Telenesti district, where the local authorities involved several neighboring villages. Thus, with less money, but in cooperation, the local authorities can provide services of a higher quality for the population. In fact, the practice of other countries shows that this kind of cooperation contributes to the development of the communities, even when the budgets are limited,” said Olesea Cruc. By the end of this year, the JILDP will offer consultative and financial assistance to 60 settlements. ”The assistance is mainly aimed at developing the strategic planning abilities of the authorities of these villages and towns. In many of them, such local capacity improvement and empowerment projects have been implemented, but, given that the problems within the JILDP are addressed from the angle of human rights and gender equality, the aim is to involve all the groups of people in the strategic planning process, not only those that are usually active (doctors, teachers, persons of culture), as well as the underprivileged groups that are marginalized for a certain reason,” said the manager of the Community Empowerment component. The program will also provide support to the NGOs focusing on local development, which operate in the given villages and towns. The Joint Integrated Local Development Program supports the Government of Moldova in its decentralization efforts and in the process of strengthening local autonomy. It is implemented with the assistance of the United Nations Development Program and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), with financial support from the Swedish Government.
