Jewish community will be asked to look after graves

The local authorities of Chisinau will request the Jewish community to provide assistance in looking after the graves of Jews at Saint Lazarus Cemetery in Chisinau. The director of the Funeral Services Company Vadim Cojusneanu said that there are 21 sectors with over 10,000 graves of Jews at the cemetery, which have not been taken care of for more than 20 years, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Our services are unable to look after these graves,” Vadim Cojusneanu said Tuesday. There are 23 workers who clean the place and 22 workers who dig graves at Saint Lazarus Cemetery. But there should be 1 000 workers, according to norms. “We must call a meeting and see if the Jewish community can help us,” stated Vadim Cojusneanu. The Jews are buried at the Jewish Cemetery. Until 1992, they had been also buried at Saint Lazarus Cemetery.
