The Jewish community in Moldova and the Jews everywhere as of April 19 observe Passover (Pesach) that lasts for eight days, until April 27. On this occasion, President Igor Dodon issued a message congratulating the Jewish community in Moldova, IPN reports, quoiting the presidential press service.
“In this nice middle of spring, I wish you health and reconciliation. Let the Passover give you power and prosperity, facilitate civic, sociocultural and professional integration, promote inter-confessional, interethnic tolerance, stability and peace in the Republic of Moldova and all over the world,” said President Dodon.
In a message, the president of the Jewish community in Moldova Alexandru Bilinkis said that these days the Jewish community honors the history of their nation from the roots, from the ancestors of Avraham Yitzchak and Jacob up to nowadays.
“We remember all the hard days of our history: each Jew should feel themselves as if they leave Egypt now! Owing to this recollection and the continuous gratitude to the Creator of the world for the salvation that came to us through each generation, we go on, passing on the faith to our descendants”.
The message says the Matzah, the Jewish Easter flatbread, is an eternal symbol of protection and support from heaven, whereas the fifth glass of wine, of prophet Elijah, is a symbol of the future liberation and restoration of the Temple!
Passover is the Jewish religious festival and holiday in memory of the escape of the Jews from Egypt over 3300 years ago.
