JCC decides to evacuate peacekeepers from Varnita harbor
The Joint Control Commission (JCC) decided on Thursday, September 29, to disengage peacekeeping patrols from Varnita river port. Hence, local enterprises were allowed to resume their activity.
Ion Leahu, Chisinau’s representative at JCC, told Info-Prim Neo that this decision came along with the request to settle relations with Tighina river port, granted provisional registration in RM.
Leahu also said that Russia showed interest in solving this issue, and its representatives insisted on finding ways to evacuate peacekeepers and subsequently allow economic agents to work. The Transnistrian part tried to block the situation, but due to Russia’s and Chisinau’s standpoints, the aforementioned decision came out.
On April 21, several dozens of armed Transnistrian militiamen and special forces seized the river port Varnita, claiming that was a subsidiary of river port Bender, which is under the separatist regime. The USA, the UE and GUAM criticized these actions.
A week ago, the facility’s staff unfolded a protest manifestation against the lack of solutions concerning Varnita river port.
