Japanese flower arrangements displayed at National Museum

Japanese traditional flower arrangements, also known as ikebana, and Japanese puppets were exhibited on Thursday, March 10, at the National Museum of Archeology and History of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. The exposition comprised 20 works of pupils and Yamada Midori, teacher at the Ikenobo Ikebana School in Kyoto, Japan. According to the teacher, the confection of an ikebana is very difficult, as each flower has a meaning that must be considered in the selection. Yamada Midori said that those who want to learn how to make floral arrangements have to study a lot. She has 300 pupils in Japan she teaches to make ikebana. Besides ikebana, some of Yamada Midori’s puppets were exhibited as well. She says she brought the puppets to show the Moldovan people Japanese traditions. The collection is more than 100 years old. Angela Lobastov, head of the Ikenobo School branch in Moldova, said at the opening that the event was organized on the occasion of Woman’s International Day and of Japanese holiday Hinomatsuri. Angela Lobastov added that besides viewing works, visitors will be able to learn how to make ikebana themselves. On March 11, between 4 and 6 PM, Yamada Midori will offer Japanese ikebana lessons. The training and materials will be free. The exhibition will be opened since March 11 until March 14. It is organized by the Japanese Embassy in Moldova and by the Moldovan branch of the Ikenobo Ikebana School.
