Japan to help Moldova buy 19 fire and rescue trucks

The Government of Japan will provide a 1.55 billion yen (240 million lei) grant to Moldova to purchase 19 specialized vehicles that will be made available to the Ministry of Interior’s General Inspectorate for Emergencies.

A the ratification of a grant agreement to this effect was approved by the Moldovan Government. The procurement will be carried as part of the project titled “Improvement of fire prevention equipment”.

According to the Interior Minister Ana Revenco, the 19 trucks will be deployed in six localities and will serve at least 1.3 million citizens. At the same time, as part of the project, rescuers and firefighters will be trained by Japanese experts on how to maintain the vehicles and their equipment.

The new trucks will help to reduce the response time to emergency calls in the localities and districts served, the minister added.
