The sanitation system and technical-material basis of over 1,000 Moldovan schools, including from Transnistria and Gagauzia, will be developed with a grant of US$980,000 provided by Japan. The grant agreement was signed by Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici and Japan’s Ambassador to Moldova, with residence in Kiev, Shigeki Sumi, IPN reports.

The Premier thanked the Government of Japan for the provided assistance, underlining that it will help develop the education institutions by providing equipment and supplies for outfitting the schools. He also said that the bilateral relations continue to develop and Moldova plans to open an embassy in Tokyo, while Japan will open an embassy in Chisinau during the next year.

For his part, Ambassador Shigeki Sumi said Japan invests money in human resources and supports the initiatives designed to contribute to promoting modern education of a high quality.

Three similar projects to the value of US$185,000 were implemented in Moldova with the support of the Japanese partners in 2010-2012. The given projects contributed to improving the infrastructure of the school in Hartopul Mare village of Criuleni district, of the secondary school No. 93 in Gratiesti village of Chisinau municipality and of the primary school in Lozova, Straseni. Another project to the value of US$79,000 is being now implemented. Its goal is to improve the education and sanitation conditions in the school of Ecaterinovca, Cimislia.
