Japan offers US$17m to Moldova to pay interest rate to World Bank

Japan provides a new assistance tranche in the amount of US$17 million to the Republic of Moldova for paying the interest rate to the World Bank, Japan’s Ambassador in Chisinau Yamada Yoich announced in a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, IPN reports.

“I thanked the Japanese side for this gesture of support that forms part of the substantial assistance offered by Japan, which is so necessary to our country for overcoming the challenges experienced amidst the tense security situation in the region,” stated Nicu Popescu.

The officials discussed subjects from the current agenda of the Moldovan-Japanese relations, the developing bilateral cooperation in the political, commercial-economic, investment and assistance projects sectors.

“Together with Ambassador Yamada, we underlined the readiness to contribute to advancing the Moldovan-Japanese partnership, to diversifying the mutually advantageous and sectorially developed cooperation between our countries,” said the Moldovan official.
