Japan offers grant for Moldova’s Inspectorate for Emergencies

The Government of Japan will offer Moldova about US$19 million in grant funding for implementing a project to improve the fire safety equipment of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations. The draft decision on the initiation of negotiations and authorization of the signing of the grant agreement compiled by exchange of notes was approved by the Government in the morning of June 30, IPN reports.

According to Minister of the Interior Pavel Voicu, there will be bought ten firefighting stairs of different capacity, nine firefighting vehicles and extrication equipment. The firefighters and rescuers will attend specialized training courses.

The implementation of the treaty will not involve additional costs or financial commitments on the part of the Republic of Moldova.

Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi said the draft decision was to be approved as a matter of urgency given that a delegation of Japan that is managing the assistance projects offered by the Government of Japan is in Chisinau these days. The Government decision enables the Ministry of the Interior to access new large grant funding for the Republic of Moldova.
