Japan donates ultrasonographs and high-performance gastroscopes to Mother and Child Institute

The Mother and Child Institute received modern medical equipment from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Among the delivered pieces of equipment are ultrasound scanners that allow timely diagnosis of brain problems in children and performing mammographic examinations, IPN reports.

Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco said that the donation to the value of €285,000 includes a set of equipment that is very necessary in diagnosing and treating diseases. They are general purpose ultrasonographs for heart problems in children. Other equipment is intended for mammographic examinations and brain diseases. The new set of equipment also includes video gastroscopes, which were most wanted by doctors of the Mother and Child Institute. The entire lot, donated by JICA, comes from the Japanese citizens who shared their contributions with the people of Moldova in these times of hardship through which the Republic of Moldova is going.

Japan’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Yamada Yoichiro said he is glad that ultrasonographs and video gastroscopes for the endoscopic systems of the hospital were delivered today. The diplomat voiced hope that the delivered devices will help the health system of the Republic of Moldova in the future. “In 2022, when a large wave of refugees came to Moldova, the Government of Japan understood the difficulties faced by the country’s health system. The Japan International Cooperation Agency sent teams of experts to identify the needs of the system. Later the Japanese Government decided to provide modern medical equipment to five medical institutions in Chisinau,” stated Ambassador Yamada Yoichiro.

Mother and Child Institute director Sergiu Gladun said that the ultrasound diagnostic equipment and video gastroscopes for the hospital’s endoscopic systems will contribute substantially to improving patient service.

In November 2022, a Grant Agreement totaling about €7 million for the implementation of the Health System Strengthening Program was signed between the Ministry of Health and the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Thus, with the non-reimbursable financial support provided by the Government of Japan, “Timofei Moșneaga” National Clinical Hospital, the Emergency Medicine Institute, the Oncology Institute, the Mother and Child Institute, and the Holy Trinity Municipal Clinical Hospital will be equipped with state-of-the-art medical devices.
