January heating bills likely to remain high despite gas shortage
The heating bills issued in January for the Chisinau residents are likely to be as expensive as in December, despite lower temperatures in radiators, caused by a disruption of Russian gas supplies in the first two weeks of the month, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Unofficial information from parts of the city shows that the amounts of heat measured at the entry points of the apartment buildings equal the amounts of heat delivered in December”, said housing division head Petru Gontea at a City Hall's meeting on Monday. But this information can't be checked against the data of the utility Termocom, which hasn't published them yet.
Earlier the municipal authorities expected the heating bills for January to be at least by 40 percent cheaper. “On normal days when the temperature of the delivered heat was 80 degrees, the output was 600 gigacalories. During the gas crisis, it dropped to 270 gigacalories, and that made us think that the bills would be by 40 percent cheaper”, Gontea said. According to him, the mild weather in December could be an explanation for the similarity of the readings indicated by the heat meters.
“Every month we learn something new about the delivery of heat to the city”, said Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, adding: “Two weeks after an energy crisis affected the supply of heat, during which there was no hot water, either, it would be absurd to see the same figures in our bills”.
