January 15 declared National Culture Day
January 15, which is the day on which poet Mihai Eminescu was born, was declared the National Culture Day. A draft decision to this effect was proposed by the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group and supported by the parliamentary majority, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We speak Eminescu’s language and share the same cultural and spiritual values. January 15 will be a day when we will celebrate not only a great bard, but also a special day of the national culture, when different cultural activities will take place,” stated Lib-Dem Maria Ciobanu.
Another member of the Liberal-Democratic group Ghenadie Ciobanu said that Moldova has a National Wine Day and should also have a Culture Day and the birth day of Mihai Eminescu is the most suitable day for such a holiday.
Romanian poet, prose writer and journalist Mihai Eminescu was born in Botosani on January 15, 1850.
