The Ministry of Culture drafted a bill that institutes criminal punishment for persons who destroy historical monuments. The bill is to be examined by the Government and Parliament, IPN report.
The ministry suggests that the private individuals who will destroy or damage cultural and historical monuments should be punished with a fine of 10,000 to 20,000 lei or one to three years in jail. In both of the cases, the person will be banned from holding particular posts for a period of up to five years. For legal entities, the fine is 60,000 to 100,000 lei. They will also be banned from performing particular activities for a period of two to five years.
The Ministry also proposes imposing fines of 10,000 to 20,000 lei for the unauthorized use of metal detectors and other tele-detection devices at archeological sites and in areas with archeological potential. The bill stipulates jail terms for persons who will steal architectural patrimony, will refuse to yield archeological vestiges up to the state bodies, will sell archeological goods and will take them out of the country without authorization.
