Jail term for violating protection order in case of victim of domestic violence

A man aged 55 was sentenced to a year and a half in jail for the non-execution of the measures stipulated in a protection order issued for a victim of domestic violence. Being recognized as a domestic abuser, he was obliged to keep away from the place of stay of his concubine and her minor children. The man ignored the measures ordered by the court and entered the concubine’s house, threatening her with physical violence in the presence of her children, IPN reports.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said that at the beginning of August, the man was recognized as a domestic abuser and a series of restrictions were imposed on him. He was obliged to stay away from the woman and her minor children, at a distance that can ensure the victim’s security, and not to have any contact with her, including by telephone, mail or any other means, during a period of three months.

However, at the end of October the man went to the woman’s home in Fălești district. The Fălești Court found the man guilty of violating the protection order and sentenced him to one year and a half in semi-closed jail. The sentence can be challenged in the Balti Appeals Court within 15 days.

The man fully admitted his guilty. This wasn’t the first wrongdoing he committed.

Under the Criminal Code, the violation of a protection order is a crime punishable with 160 to 220 hours of community services or with up to four years’ imprisonment.
