Former chief prosecutor of Chisinau municipality Ivan Diacov considers the funds stolen as part of the bank fraud will no longer return to the state treasury and the truth about the “theft of the century” will never be discovered as there is no will in this regard, IPN reports.
Ivan Diacov said the bank fraud case has been hushed up by the Prosecutor General’s Office from the very beginning, starting with the arrest of the then president of the Administration Board of Banca de Economii Grigore Gachkevich. “The real truth will never be discovered. They could tell some truths, but will not tell the real truth and the stolen money will not be returned to the state treasury,” he stated in the talk show “Fourth power” on N4 TV channel.
The former prosecutor noted that the case concerning the April 7, 2009 events has the same fate. Many people know what happened then in central Chisinau, but there is no will to get at the whole truth. “Many know what happened on April 7, but some of those who were to take measures were irresponsible, like Igor Popa and others. They hushed up things. Some of those who bore responsibility for those who were to take measures, being in power, know how things stood, but had different political interests and thus hid the truth,” said Ivan Diacov.
As to the crime situation, he said that the number of murders is actually two times larger than it is reported. The responsible institutions should conduct a serious investigation to determine the real state of affairs. “The real figure of murders is twice higher. (...) I think the senior state administration is to blame as it does not ensure control. The Ministry of the Interior is to blame,” stated Ivan Diacov.
