The former leader of the Christian Democratic People’s Party (PPCD) Iurie Rosca was obliged by the Buiucani local office of the Court of Chisinau municipality to deny the accusations made against ex-minister of defense Valeriu Pasat in 2006, concerning the preparation of a coup by the latter at the instructions of Moscow. In this connection, Iurie Rosca requested the law enforcement agencies to take legal action. The judgment was passed on April 23 and can be challenged in the Appeals Court within 30 days, IPN reports.
Iurie Rosca’s lawyer Iurie Margineanu said he will challenge the judgment as this was passed illegally. For a person to be sued, one year should pass from the moment the defamation act becomes known, which is from 2006 until 2007, not in 12 years.
“If the state, with all its institutions that examine such cases, could not prove the involvement of Valeriu Pasat, how can Iurie Rosca prove this alone? If Iurie Rosca shouldn’t have made statements and announced the state bodies about a possible coup, we encourage the persons not to notify the state bodies anymore,” stated Iurie Margineanu.
Valeriu Pasat said the case against him was started based on the accusations made by Iurie Rosca on February 6, 2006. In the period of the investigation, he was deprived of liberty for abuse of power with serious consequences. Later, in 2009, he was acquitted and could not sue Iurie Rosca because the administration of the Prosecutor General’s Office denied access to the materials of the case.
“When I made an approach in October 2017, the current administration of the Prosecutor General’s Office allowed me to familiarize myself with the content of the case and I later sued Mister Iurie Rosca. I saw the case first in December 2017. This case does not prove that I planned a coup. The accusations made against weren’t substantiated in time even if Iurie Rosca said that he had evidence,” stated Valeriu Pasat.
Nicolae Fala, lawyer for Valeriu Pasat, said the court judgment is legal and sound and is not late as Iurie Rosca’s lawyer asserts.
Valeriu Pasat sued Iurie Rosca for harming this honor and dignity by the made accusations.
Recently, the portal deschide.md wrote that the ex-leader of the PPCD Iurie Rosca is suspected of traffic of influence and the relevant case is being dealt with by anticorruption prosecutors. The former politician is suspected of asking €1 million from a Moldovan businessman in 2009 for persuading judges to become involved in influencing court judgments that would have saved the man’s business. Shortly after asking the money, Rosca received two tranches that totaled hundreds of thousands of euros.
Iurie Rosca held the post of Deputy Speaker of Parliament for two terms and the post of Deputy Prime Minister for a term.
