Iurie Leanca welcomes European Commission’s decision to propose abolishing visas

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca welcomed the decisions of the European Commission, which on November 27 proposed abolishing the visa requirements for Moldovans, and voiced hope that it will be adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU. The official assured that the Government will take all the necessary measures for the decision to be taken by the end of 2014, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Government, the Premier had a telephone discussion with European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule, whom he thanked for consistency and for all the support provided to Moldova.

The European Commission’s proposal comes after the presentation of the fifth progress report on the implementation of the Moldova –EU Visa Liberalization Action Plan on November 15, which confirms that Moldova fulfilled all the imposed conditions.

In this connection, EU Commissioner for Home Affairs said she was very pleased to propose to abolish visa requirements for Moldovan citizens holding a biometric passport. The proposal is now to be considered by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union.
