Iurie Leanca suggests creating fund for supporting veterans

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca put forward a series of initiatives aimed at supporting the veterans who fought for Moldova’s integrity and independence. One of the measures refers to the creation of a fund for supporting the veterans. The initiatives were discussed in a meeting of the Premier and the veterans, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.

“I think time has come to switch over to deeds. That’s why I propose a series of initiatives entitled “Sacrifice deserves respect”. These initiatives are designed to restore the society’s and state’s respect for the veterans. It is a complex approach in the relations with the veterans, which is adopted for the first time,” said the head of Government.

The public authorities and veterans’ organizations should contribute to improving the work of the national council dealing with the problems of participants in armed conflicts. The regulations governing its activity should be improved. A common legal assistance center for veterans needs to be set up. Projects should be worked out in concert with veterans’ organizations from abroad and a fund for supporting the veterans should be created.

“These initiatives, which are to be implemented over the next four years, will make the social protection of veterans a priority for the government and an opportunity for using the veterans’ enormous potential for strengthening our statehood,” stated Iurie Leanca.

In Moldova there are almost 26,000 veterans of the Nistru war. The discussions also involved veterans of the Afghanistan war and participants in the Chernobyl cleanup.
