Iurie Leanca: Some states are jealous that EU devotes increased attention to us

Moldova’s European integration prospects are no more a peripheral subject in the EU member states, Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca said Tuesday in a press briefing centering on the visits he paid last week to a number of European capitals, Info-Prim Neo reports. “A year and a half ago, our European prospects were discussed with care in European capitals. Today, owing to the powerful and coherent efforts that we made in Moldova, this is no more a taboo subject,” said Iurie Leanca. According to the minister, last week was an exceptional one for the dialogue on Moldova’s European integration aspirations with the EU member states. Iurie Leanca spoke about the ministerial meeting of the Weimar Triangle (Germany, France and Poland), to which the Moldovan official was invited. The minister said that invitation was significant as it was for the fist time that a representative of Moldova attended an event of such a scale. Referring to the discussions on the Transnistrian conflict that he had with European officials, Iurie Leanca stated that the EU reiterated its support for identifying a viable solution to the dispute. “It is a subject that holds interest. We are in a new geopolitical context. We are the EU’s neighbors and they are now more concerned. I heard that some states are jealous that the EU devotes increased attention to Moldova,” said the minister.
