Moldova’s relationship with Romania forms part of the internal policy of Moldova given the large number of joint projects that are to bring benefits to the Moldovan citizens. Therefore, we should speak separately about the relations with Romania, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Iurie Leancă was quoted by IPN as saying in a TV program.

As regards Moldova’s relationship with the European Union, the Deputy Prime Minister said this is not the happiest stage of this relationship, due also to the crisis of 2015-2016 through which the Republic of Moldova went. “It is much harder to restore confidence than to build it from zero as we did in 2009. Based on subjective reasons, we eventually didn’t manage to explain particular decisions taken in Chisinau sufficiently well in Brussels or in other capitals. I refer to the Election Code. We, those who voted this Code, are to prove that we had sufficient reasons to do so,” stated Iurie Leancă.

According to him, even if the Republic of Moldova is a European country, it is absolutely clear that without the involvement of the United States it is hard to ensure a balance of forces and to return to the creation of preconditions for a regional security architecture. “We are vitally interested in maintaining Washington’s interest in the Republic of Moldova,” stated the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration.
