Iurie Leanca pleads for Moldova’s European prospect in Berlin

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, in his speech at the East Forum Berlin, said that Moldova will firmly keep its European course, which is the only model of sustainable development for the country. He called on the investors from Western Europe to come to Moldova and urged the political partners to support the country in its efforts to become part of the large European family, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Government.

“Eastern Europe cannot develop sustainably without a European prospect. The 20 years of prolonged transition taught us a lesson: Moldova will not be able to develop sustainably and will not have a prosperous future if it remains a buffer zone between the West and the East,” said Iurie Leanca, adding that the European integration is a choice that can become a reality in a short period of time, if effort is made.

The Premier pleaded for recognizing Moldova’s prospect of joining the EU, underlining that ambiguity causes uncertainty, while uncertainty is equal to instability.

In his message to the investors, Iurie Leanca said that Moldova has a huge potential to develop, has skilled and trained labor force and access to the relevant regional markets, and has one of the freest trade regimes.

While in Germany, Iurie Leanca had a meeting with the Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who confirmed that he soon will pay a visit to Chisinau, together with the Foreign Minster of France Laurent Fabius. This visit was earlier postponed owing to the crisis in Ukraine.
