Iurie Leanca: Moldova is a success case, worth being studied by politologists
The Republic of Moldova is a case for study that holds significant interest for politologists and politicians as it was on the verge of collapse and bankruptcy. But it reappeared unexpectedly on the political map of the world and Europe. Related statements were made by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Giving a lecture to students of the Faculty of International Relations and Political and Administrative Sciences, Iurie Leanca said only the Baltic Countries managed to gain admission to the EU among the ex-Soviet states. According to him, a success case means a country with democratic political institutions, with respect for the human rights and with political and economic stability.
The Deputy Prime Minister said both Chisinau and Brussels want Moldova to become an example of success. The EU supports Moldova financially and politically, but the European community wants the invested resources to bring results.
Iurie Leanca also said that when he came to the Foreign Ministry, he found suspended relations with the EU, hostile relations with the neighbors and oscillating relations with Russia. The major objectives set at the beginning of his term included improving Moldova's image at foreign level and the relations with the neighbors and strategic partners like the U.S. and Russia.
Among the government's failures at foreign level, Leanca mentioned the official Chisinau's inability to convey common messages to some of the partners as the opinions inside the AEI are often dissenting, and the cooling of the relations with Ukraine.
