Acting Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said he knows nothing about the designation of another candidate for the post of Prime Minister and he will be surprised if the rumors that another candidate for premiership was found are confirmed tomorrow. He made such a statement in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel “Moldova 1”, IPN reports.
Iurie Leanca noted he heard rumors that the PLDM could propose another candidate for the post of Premier on Friday. “Nobody told me anything. They should have consulted me too as I’m the first deputy chairman of the party,” he stated.
Iurie Leanca reiterated the necessity of forming a pro-European parliamentary coalition, saying that he does not accept an alliance with the PCRM. “Form my viewpoint, an alliance with the Communists would be against the promises made by our party to the people. On Friday, we will start negotiations with the PL. If there is political will, there will be the possibility of forming the government. Each of us should assume a part of the blame,” he stated.
Iurie Leanca also said that he didn’t count on the votes of the Communists, but hoped that he will be supported by the Liberals, even if he understood on the eve that they will not vote for him. “I took part in the meeting of Ghimpu and Plahotniuc. It was clear for me that they will not vote me. But I hoped that the necessary votes will be found and we will be able to form a pro-European alliance within two months,” he stated.
Iurie Leanca made it clear that he will not accept the post of foreign minister if he is not voted Prime Minister. “I served as foreign minister and I think I fulfilled my commitments in Moldova’s interests. But when I worked as minister, I realized that by centering on the foreign policy without addressing the internal issue, we will never be able to achieve the most important foreign policy objective, which is to join the EU,” he explained.
The press reported a number of names of persons whom the PLDM could field for premiership following the non-voting in of the Leanca II Government on February 12.
