Prime Minister Iurie Leanca highly appreciated the operation performed by the National Anticorruption Center at the Leuseni-Albita customs post as a result of which a number of border police officers from Moldova and Romania were arrested and charged with passive corruption. The operation was carried out in concert with Romanian partners, assisted by German colleagues, IPN reports.
“It is an example of cooperation by which Moldova takes part in the securing of the EU’s border. I hope we will be able to convince our European friends to look at us not only with concern, but also with confidence,” said Iurie Leanca.
The Premier voiced hope that by this action Moldova showed that it is able to eliminate the sources of corruption. “By removing the sources, we contribute to diminishing smuggling and crime and to increasing the security of the Moldovan and European citizens,” he stated.
Iurie Leanca also refereed to the case of a judge who was arrested by officers of the National Anticorruption Center for taking bribe. “All the judges who damage the image and undermine the credibility of the judiciary should be removed from the system” said the Premier, adding the prosecution bodies should send these criminal cases to court as soon as possible.
