Iurie Leanca: I hope we will act with maximum responsibility from now on

Iurie Leanca, the leader of the group of unaffiliated MPs who form part of the European People’s Party of Moldova, voiced hope that now that the Strelet Government fell, there will be held open and responsible discussions and that all the MPs who declare themselves pro-European will understand the priorities and challenges and will act with maximum responsibility, IPN reports.

“I agree that these discussions must be launched urgently. Each day of suspense costs the country economically and politically. I think 7-10 days are enough for deciding the future steps. If the Liberal-Democratic colleagues really want to ensure the country’s future and we want to strengthen the pro-European course, we must show that we are wise, mature and can overcome frustrations and complexes. We must be preoccupied with one thing – people’s destinies,” stated Iurie Leanca.

He also said that he had discussions with important persons from Brussels, who expressed their concern about the situation in Moldova, but assured him that they will provide all the necessary support if a solid parliamentary majority is formed, which will be ready to reform the country.

Asked in what conditions the unaffiliated MPs would accept to take part in the formation of a parliamentary majority, Iurie Leanca said that he and his colleagues want real commitments to be made so as to regain the support of the development partners, but the most important thing is to regain people’s confidence. “A decision as to who will be the next Premier will be taken after a majority is formed and clear objectives are set,” he stated.

The Strelet Government was dismissed by 65 votes of the Socialist, Communist and Democratic MPs on October 29.
