Iurie Leanca has consultations with Liberals

The candidate for premiership Iurie Leanca Wednesday had discussions with representatives of the Liberal Party (PL) with a view to securing support for the government program and the Cabinet.  After the meeting, Iurie Leanca expressed his confidence that he will obtain the necessary support. At the same time, the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu said he wants discussions with the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) and the Democratic Party (PDM), IPN reports.

Iurie Leanca told the journalists that the negotiations continue and that he will yet have discussions with the PLDM and PDM. “There are always chances. It is important to make use of them,” said the acting Premier.

Mihai Ghimpu said the discussion was interesting. “He asked us to vote for the Leanca Government, but we know that this won’t be the Leanca Government, but the Government of the PLDM-PCRM-PDM. I want discussions with the PLDM and PDM. We didn’t discuss the ministerial portfolios with Leanca. We are ready to vote for a Government of which we would form part. I think holding negotiations is the best solution as the Government needs the support of the pro-European parties,” he stated.

Iurie Leanca is to ask for a vote of confidence from Parliament by February 11. The Cabinet is invested by at least 51 votes of MP. With the support of the PLDM, PDM and PL, the candidate would garner 55 votes.
