The chairman of the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM) Iurie Leanca said external support should be provided only in conditions of responsible and transparent actions on the part of the Government of Moldova, aimed at overcoming the crisis situation. The politician made the statement after he took part in the seventh GLOBSEC Security Conference held in Bratislava on April 15-17, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the PPEM, on the sidelines of the event Iurie Leanca had meetings with officials and experts of Central European states, which centered on the necessity of fulfilling the commitments, based on the European integration agenda. The politician pleaded for offering Moldova assistance in implementing these, if the Government takes transparent and responsible actions.
Within the Conference, the leader of the PPEM met with Štefan Füle, Kalman Mizsei, Bogdan Aurescu and Damon Wilson, with whom he exchanged opinions on the sociopolitical situation in Moldova. Aspects of the regional security and stability were discussed with the NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow.
Iurie Leanca also discussed with Madeleine Albright, former U.S. Secretary of State and chairperson of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs. This assured the Moldovan politician of the external partners’ capacity to insist on the promotion of a real reform agenda, focused on concrete results.
The politician also met with Lithuanian Minister of External Affairs Linas Linkevičius. The two noted that the lack of targeted and urgent actions by the Government, especially in the justice sector, can irreversibly affect Moldova’s European course.
GLOBSEC is an important Central-European foreign policy and security forum.
