Iurie Leanca: European dream is a dream we want to live

“The chance offered today by the EU to Moldova is a generous gesture of solidarity and support. The European dream is a dream we want to live,” Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said in the ceremony to award the Charlemagne Prize to the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, held in Aachen, Germany, IPN has learned from the Government’s press service.

The Premier underlined that the European integration for the people from Moldova is an existential matter. “For us, the EU is a distant mirror that reflects the idealized image of us and this image shows what we can be rather than what we are. It is our hope for the future. For many of us this dream seems too good to be true. It seems more like a fairytale than possible reality,” said Iurie Leanca.

He also said that the Moldovan people during the last few decades experienced many difficulties and disappointment. That’s why many fear that the European integration can be only an empty promise. But this skepticism will disappear when they see that it is real. “This time we will not fail. Herman von Rompuy said once: “For a dream to come true, one must live the dream!” stated Iurie Leanca.

The Moldovan Premier is in Germany on a two-day visit.
