Prime Minister Iurie Leanca had a telephone conversation with the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Leonid Kojara, on the initiative of the Moldovan official. The Transnistrian administration’s unilateral decision to delimit the so-called state border was the main subject for discussion, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the Government, Tiraspol’s decision runs counter to all the documents and agreements reached earlier during the negotiation process. The Premier said the Government considers that these actions represent defiance of the efforts of Chisinau and the international partners to maintain a constructive dialogue.
The interlocutors underlined that such an approach by the Transnistrians only hinders the settlement of the conflict and the promotion of the confidence-building measures between the banks of the Nistru River.
Leonid Kojara expressed the concern of the OSCE and other partners involved in the negotiation process about the created situation. He stressed the importance of the participants in the negotiations joining efforts so as to prevent the escalation of the conflict.
The OSCE Chairman-in-Office confirmed the readiness to support the official Chisinau’s efforts to ameliorate the situation and to return to a civilized dialogue at the negotiating table so as to ensure security in the region.
