The president of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Iurie Ciocan excludes the possibility of multiple voting in the June 14 local elections. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, Ciocan admitted that the electoral registers may include dead persons, but this won’t be a violation if no attempts to vote instead of these are made, IPN reports.
Iurie Ciocan said the voter rolls are now much more accurate. Until 2012, the lists were compiled by mayor’s offices and were kept by these. Now the lists are kept on the Commission’s servers.
The CEC president noted that the voters from Chisinau will choose the mayor general of Chisinau municipality and the Municipal Council. The voters from the suburban settlements will have four ballots. They will choose the mayor of the settlement, the local council, the mayor general and the Municipal Council. In district centers and in districts, the people will choose the mayor of the settlement, the local council and the district council. The ballots will be of different colors.
Polling places outside the country are not established for the local elections. Only those who are in the country vote and these vote only in the settlement where they have the domicile or the place of residence.
Asked when the CEC will make public the results of the June 14 elections, Iurie Ciocan said that after the parliamentary elections the results started to be announced very quickly and they will make effort to do the same in the coming elections given that a computerized data transmission system was installed. “I think sufficient data will be available by midnight. By the way, we will show again maximum openness to the media. We have a well-equipped media center at the CEC,” he stated.
As to the setting of the election day by law, the CEC president said the central electoral authority will plead for clarity in this respect because predictability is needed.
