Iurie Bolboceanu: I experienced political-criminal ordeal

Ex-MP Iurie Bolboceanu, who was convicted of treason in 2018 and was recently acquitted, said that he experienced a political-criminal ordeal. He is not very optimistic about what is going on in the Moldovan justice sector. According to him, for things to be changed, everyone should contribute. “Today it was me and tomorrow it can be someone else,” Iurie Bolboceanu stated in a news conference at IPN.

On October 16, the court acquitted and rehabilitated him. “This seems to be good, but it is rather a tragedy for me. It is yet not only my tragedy as it is the tragedy of everyone, a common tragedy,” stated the ex-MP.

Iurie Bolboceanu noted that he never believed that Moldova will have political prisoners and will witness that anarchy that existed until June 2019, when that political-criminal elite led by Vlad Plahotniuc’s Democratic Party ruled.

Iurie Bolboceanu believes that despite the positive signals, a lot is yet to be done to reform the state institutions as they are those that generate tragedies that lead to criminal cases started by order. “We, civil society, those who care about what’s going on in Moldova, should prevent such things as the fate of each of us will greatly depend on the reformation of the state institutions, of the justice sector in the Republic of Moldova,” he noted.

According to the former MP, there are yet many innocent persons who stay in jail because someone wanted to shut them up or because those businessmen were not loyal to the government. The purpose of the state institutions and civil society is to identify all those cases that were started by order so that the people are set free and get their life before jail back.
