Iurie Bolboceanu: After I left PDM, I and my family were persecuted

Former Democratic MP Iurie Bolboceanu, who was sentenced to 14 years in prison for treason, said that he and his family were persecuted after he left the party.  He saw the persons who were following him and it was clear to him who did this. Furthermore, he received messages warning him not to make statements and not to become involved in politics, IPN reports

Iurie Bolboceanu said that for this reason he hadnt’ talked to the press about his case, about his leaving of the PDM and the developments inside the party. “They parked in front of my house and listened to our conversations,” the former politician stated in a talk show on TV8 channel.

The ex-MP said he faced a number of problems while serving as an MP because he proposed bills that didn’t suit the leadership of the Democratic Party. Among these were the bill on the de-monopolization of the company “Metalferos” that was presumably the main backer of the PDM and the bill on the setting of taxes on the money that left Moldova and reached offshore areas.

In the period that followed, his son was beaten cruelly and Iurie Bolboceanu presumes that this was done by people from the PDM. Furthermore, a criminal case was started against his son over procuring and he considers this was also fabricated by order. “My son was sued and dismissed. My daughter was dismissed on January 1, 2019. I was sentenced to 14 years in jail... Only my wife earns incomes and she managed to keep her job with difficulty. She was and continues to be pressed,” stated Bolboceanu.

He noted he was warned by former colleagues from the PDM not to put up resistance to the party’s leadership or to leave the party. He was also warned about this by then Communist MPs. He several times attempted to leave the PDM, but his party mates every time persuaded him not to do this. He took a final decision to leave when he saw that the state institutions, including the Prosecutor General’s Office, started to be monopolized.

In March 2014, he left the Democratic Party. He argued then that he disagreed with the party’s policy and decisions. He told the press he joined the party in order to bring democracy to Moldova, but became disappointed as the party didn’t fulfil its commitments.

In March 2018, Iurie Bolboceanu was sentenced to 14 years behind bars for treason after he was found guilty of collecting and transmitted information of national interest that could be used to the detriment of Moldova to officers of the Russian Ministry of Defense between October 5, 2016 and March 17, 2017. Recently, the Appeals Court ordered a retrial of the case of Iurie Bolboceanu.
