The director of the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) Iulian Rusu said the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency sequestrated property to the value of 1.5 billion lei that belongs to Ilan Shor. Investigations are being conducted to also sequestrate property owned by the fugitive MP outside the country, IPN reports.
The NAC director said they are taking measures to determine the origin of the money that is used to run the social stores opened by Ilan Shor. Shor’s properties in Moldova were already sequestrated.
“The identified possessions were sequestrated. The Criminal Assets Recovery Agency confiscated property to the value of 1.5 billion lei. This property is located in Moldova. As to the property that is outside the country, we are working with counterparts from a number of jurisdictions, who help us identify this. We have some preliminary figures amounting to hundreds of millions. At first sight, the money invested in the social stores does not seem to be illegal in origin. We are to analyze the whole chain to determine its origin. This is a complex process and we need the assistance of foreign counterparts so as to obtain all the necessary data,” Iulian Rusu stated in the talk show “Black Box” on TV8 channel.
He provided explanations over the summoning of Galina Dodon, the wife of ex-President Igor Dodon, to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. Iulian Rusu said the actions form part of the measures taken to probe the unjust enrichment charge made against the former President.
“These are measures taken by prosecutors. We are offering all the necessary support to the Persecutor’s Office. It goes to four counts. We provided all the information requested by prosecutors, operational analyses, parallel financial investigations related to the unjust enrichment charge. I presume that the prosecutors determined ties (with Galina Dodon). It goes to financial assets, different real estate registered in the name of other persons. The figures are high, of tens of millions,” stated Iulian Rusu.
On Monday, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office announced that Galina Dodon was summoned for being questioned in the case that is generically called “Kulyok”, in which her husband is investigated, given the existence of evidence pointing to her complicity.
