Iulian Ciocan: After 25 years of disappointment, it is hard to mobilize people to vote

Writer Iulian Ciocan said in a democratic society the voice of everyone is important, but it is very hard to mobilize the people to vote when the speeches and deeds of the politicians have disappointed them during the 25 years of independence.

Contacted by IPN, the writer said it seems that what has been built during 25 years is not a sufficiently powerful motivation for the voters and the calls to vote in this situation are unsupported.

“The unjustified populist calls to vote and the too exaggerated enthusiasm, to my mind, may not lead to a significant result. The people must vote, but my expectations are not very great. I do not have illusions because I have lived here for 25 years and know how our society is. I do not have expectations of our politicians or of our voters either. I think that after these elections, the politicians and the voters should grow up a little and should not create idols and saviors of the nation,” stated Iulian Ciocan.

According to him, Moldovan society should become more pragmatic and with critical spirit because this is what it lacks. “We easily create idols and then easily become disappointed and start to look for another idol,” said the writer.
