Students, alumni and teachers of the theoretic lyceum “Iulia Hasdeu” in Chisinau marked the 50th anniversary of the school. The ceremony took place on May 17 at the National Philharmonic Hall, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the principal of the lyceum, Eleonora Goncear, during the 50 years of activity of “Iulia Hasdeu”, previously called school no. 32, every child was offered the possibility to develop accordingly his/her skills, possibilities and interests. Various activities marking the anniversary are being held during as well as after classes, says the principal. According to Eleonora Goncear, “Iulia Hasdeu” faces challenges like any other school in Moldova. Initially the school was intended only for 620 students, whereas now the school lacks considerable place for studies. The construction of a new building was stopped due to financial insufficiency. Also, for already 15 years the students can’t afford correct nutrition because there is no cafeteria in the school. However, the faculty professors have high professionalism and working experience, who always knew to organize the activities in a way which would overcome the challenges, said Goncear. The ceremony of anniversary was organized by the General Department for Education, Youth and Sport of Chisinau, as well as by students’ parents. Among the students and alumni who participated at the event was also singer and composer Vitalie Dani. At the moment, 1253 students are attending the school. The classes are taking place in two day shifts. The faculty staff totals 116 professors. The lyceum also has three choirs and three ethno-folk groups. There are 11 class groups with musical-choir inclination, 30 with foreign languages inclination and 14 high-school class groups. School no.32, now Iulia Hasdeu Lyceum, was founded in 1957.
