It's superbeneficial that a local broadcaster renounces relaying programs: Corneliu Mihalache
“It's superbeneficial that a local broadcaster renounces retransmission, in favor of its own programs,” Corneliu Mihalache, a member of the Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC) stated about Eu TV. The station has decided to air its own production from 7.30 to 24.00. The BCC members agreed on a new schedule of Eu TV at the sitting on Wednesday, April 1. Up to now, this station has been relaying TVR International.
The results of monitoring 9 televisions, performed in the electoral campaign by the Electronic Press Association (APEL), show that Eu TV favors and presents in a positive context mainly the People’s Christian Democratic Party and it often displays depreciative attitudes toward other parties, except for the Communists Party (PCRM). Last week, the BCC punished this station for not observing social and political pluralism in broadcasts, together with other stations from Chisinau.
At the same sitting, the BCC rejected a request from the PCRM that asked to punish Pro TV Chisinau for having aired a report, in which the PCRM felt touched. The BCC members argued that the name of this electoral competitor was not mentioned directly in the report, and only general reference to the governance was made. It's a report that Pro TV produces for being commented during electoral debates aired on this station. The PCRM previously stated that it wouldn’t participate in televised electoral debates.
The BCC also decided to sign agreements with foreign broadcasters: the BBC, Radio Free Europe, TV5 and Radio France International, now that the new Broadcasting Code doesn’t provide that broadcasting licenses are to be issued to these stations. They are renting facilities from the state in order to relay their signal in Moldova, and the old licenses have expired.
The BCC has also made several decisions to punish some cable operators, that are to be published in Monitorul Oficial (Official Gazette).
