It's not right to put our problems on foreign donors' shoulders, Premier Vlad Filat

Prime Minister Vlad Filat approved of the discussions carried out during the joint meeting of the government and development partners held Monday. The meeting was organized by the World Bank and lasted the whole day. It was attended by all the members of the Cabinet, representatives of international financial organizations and other foreign donors and of embassies working in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. Filat told later a news conference that the joint meeting was a novelty for Moldova and that the discussions were sincere and constructive in manner. He said the meeting participants pointed again to the gravity of the economic situation in Moldova, which is not only a consequence of the world economic crisis, but also the result of inaction when the crisis started. “The meeting aimed to highlight the measures that must be taken to deal with the created situation,” he said. The Premier reiterated his request not to make rash statements and comments, without knowing the 'conditions' that the IMF mission would have imposed, as they can affect the negotiation of the new agreement with the Fund. “Such comments are unnecessary given that the memorandum-agreement will be made public before it is signed on October 26,” Filat said. He assured the reporters and through them the Moldovan people that the talks and the discussions at the joint meeting were aimed at identifying the best method of implementing reforms in Moldova so that the population incurs lower costs. Filat said the development partners are willing to provide financial assistance, but stressed that it is not right to count only on foreign financing as there should be used the internal financial resources and efforts first. In the same news conference, Martin Raiser, the World Bank Country Director for Moldova, Belarus and Ukraine, said he is glad that during a day they discussed the problems faced by Moldova and the steps that must be taken to overcome the crisis. According to him, these steps must contribute to a stable economic growth. He said that the meeting was designed to help Moldova finalize the economic recovery and stabilization program and that the decisions that will be taken will be correct and beneficial to Moldova.
