It’s crucial for Moldova to remain on the list of priorities of the United States, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat said in a meeting with Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland. The Liberal-Democratic leader is paying a visit to the U.S., which will last by the end of May, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué of the party, the officials discussed the progress made by Moldova on the path to European integration, including the implementation of reforms and the economic development. Special attention was devoted to the internal and external security challenges to which Moldova is exposed until the signing of the Association Agreement and on a medium-term, in the pre-electoral period, and in the context of the tensions in Ukraine and in the whole region.
Victoria Nuland said she is confident that Moldova will succeed in the European integration process, underlining that the country made progress in doing reforms and in developing infrastructure, but the visa-free travel in the EU is the most important accomplishment.
The Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs underlined the importance of correctly informing the people about the advantages of the European integration, saying the communication with the Transnistrians must be more intense, given also the approaching signing of the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement.
