Italian MFA funds restoration of Chisinau building

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has donated 64,000 euros through the Venice-based UNESCO Office to restore the future premises of the Agency for the Preservation of Monuments, located on Sciusev Street in Chisinau. “A tender contest will be announced by September 15 in order to select the contractor to carry out the restoration, and in the spring of 2011 the Agency will have new premises”, said Ion Stefanita, the Agency's director. The building had been administrated by the Agriculture meeting until it was transferred under the administration of the National Ethnography Museum by a Government decision this spring. Besides funding the restoration, the Italian MFA also donated money for furniture and supported a series of seminars themed “Effective policies to promote cultural heritage” for the local authorities. This is the second building in Chisinau to be renovated with European money in recent years. Last year the European Commission financed the renovation of the Mimi Manor House, currently Hospital no.1 for Children.
